Celebrate the festive season with the timeless story of a woman who couldn't bake, cook or decorate even if her career would depend on it. Revel in a Christmas idyll turned upside down and for once be at leisure during these holidays.

The Girl Power programme block takes place once a month in Letná's Bio OKO. Girl Power is a film series dedicated to women filmmakers and more generally to topics related to feminism. It is always a screening with an introduction and a debate.

CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT (1945), the screwball comedy starring the sharp and charismatic Barbara Stanwyck has been a Christmas classic for eight decades. The plot of the Hollywood film revolves around a popular culinary columnist with the façade of a perfect housewife, who however lives alone, can't cook and rewrites recipes of her good friend, the chef of a renowned Manhattan restaurant. To save her career, she must convince the owner of her magazine and a returning soldier that a hastily rented farm in Connecticut, a borrowed toddler, and her boyfriend make up the most exemplary family in America. And to top it off, she has to throw a grand Christmas Eve feast for all of them, just like she described it in her latest article.

The screening of the Christmas classic will be followed by Q&A with Šárka Homfray and Lucie Václavková, the authors of the Pay Gap podcast and book of the same name dealing with women's working lives. We will discuss whether Christmas is really that merry, who is the most affected by the second shift and why some work becomes invisible. Plus we’ll go through the question that haunts each of us during this time: what does (not) belong in a potato salad?
