Institucionalization of the M.A. program in Gender Studies at the School of Humanities at Charles University in Prague has been enabled thanks to the generous financial support of the JPD grant in 2005-2007, under the auspices of:



GENDER STUDIES LIBRARY

 

The departmenf of Gender Studies uses as its departmental library the library of non-profit organization Gender Studies, o.p.s., which is the largest public library of its kind and size in the Czech Republic and Central Europe. The library was established in 1991 by a sociologist Jiřina Šiklova, currently houses more than 5,000 volumes and focuses on the following thematic areas: women's and men's studies; feminist and queer theories; history of women's movements; gender aspects in sociology, religion, sexuality, philosophy, and psychology; positions of women and men in society, family and workplace. An integral part of the collection is also fiction and poetry of female authors.

Library of GS offers:

scholarly books, academic journals and "gray literature" (firm and companies publications, conference publications, working papers) - in three languages - Czech, English and German

archive - women's journals and magazines, annual reports of Minerva association and Women's Manufacturing Guild, private correspondence and a part of inheritance of Eliška Krásnohorská

news and magazine clippings výstrižky - from Czech and English daily press (till 2000)

database of student gender theses - available from www.feminismus.cz/diplomky.shtml (some of these works are a part of the collection of GS)

Other Services:

inter-library borrowing - for readers and for the library it is used for aquiring documents, which are not available in the collection of the library. It is possible to request its mailing or mailing of a copy. Inter-library borrowing is free of charge, copies and mailings are charged according to the current tariff (available on the webpages of GS)

- xerox services - 1,50 Kc / 1xA4, archival materials 5,- Kc / 1xA4

reference services - through these services the library offers factographic information and information about sources. The library sends free of charge via email short, concrete answers to concrete questions, short book lists, magazine lists or information about internet links
